Endless Summer
33rd Annual Lakeside Event
33rd Annual Lakeside Hangliding and Paragliding Event
Well it is almost time for the 33rd Annual Lakeside Event, Aug 8th, 2009. With $1000 prize money up for grabs you need to register now. This is the longest running Hang Gliding and Paragliding Event in Canada and one of the longest in North America. As most of you know it is all about fun and more fun. This years program starts again on Friday Night August 7th at the Lakeside Pub with Registration, Beers and Bratwursts. As Max is away having fun at the RED BULL XALPS, walking and flying for 20 hours a day for 2 weeks, the rest of us have had to take up the slake. Unfortunately we rely on Max our web master to get our Lakeside Event Web site working and with him indisposed we have to go back to the old method of asking you to mail us your cheque directly as you can not register on line. Pre-Registration can be made by responding to fly@LakeSideEvent.com this email your intentions on coming to this years Lakeside Event and mailing to the address below your $50 preregistration fee. You still can get some additional information about our event at our www.LakesideEvent.com web site. Friday night and Saturday registration will cost $60.00. Both are great value as they include Saturday Morning Pancake Breakfast, Shirt, Ride up the Mountain, Dinner and a Party and Free Helicopter Lifts for Hang Gliders Wings if you get your wing to the heliport prior to 8:00 am on Saturday morning.
Registration on Friday Night will start at 8:00 pm at the Lakeside Pub. You must have your HPAC insurance current. We encourage everyone to get there early enough for an evening flight as Invermere can have great Glass Offs. Brats will start at 10:00 pm and we will drink beer to past midnight. Saturday Pancake Breakfast will start at 7:30 as we plan to have the Pilots meeting at 8:30am. All Hang Gliders must be at the Airport beside the Heli Shack no later than 8:00 am to ensure everyone can get up the mountain. Paragliders will have the opportunity for 2 flights to score while hang gliders will have one. It is our goal to start to send trucks up the mountain immediately after the pilots meeting. Anyone who has a truck to help with the first set of rides up is appreciated.
After our great day of flying and target landing the dinner, party and awards will again be held at the Lakeside Pub. This year we have a great band out of Calgary called Blind Spot, a chic band that does top 40 songs plus some of their own to rock us into the night. As most of you know there will be a time for the annual boat races in between sets and rumors that Gerry Forbes from CJ92 has built us a boat race trophy. Hangies killed the Paragliders two years ago but the Bag Boys took the title back last year. You can bring guest for $20.00 and we will have a kids area beside the Lakeside for kids to hang out but young children must be accompanied by adult as no supervision is provided. Tickets for Kids are only $5.00 and a kids meal is provided.
Summer time in Invermere the hotels fill up fast but there is still a little room at a few of the local hotels but book today. Best Western Invermere Inn at 342-9246 or Mountain View Lodge at 342-6618, Super 8 on the Highway 93 is at 250-342-8888 . Local camping is a little harder to find there is the Lakeshore Campground about 10 minutes south on Highway #93. Some of us have room in our back yard for tents so if you need to talk to us Friday night at the Lakeside Pub or send us an email before and we can let you know how to find one of our back yards. If you have a trailer either the Canyon RV at 347-9564 or Red Streak 1-877-737-3783 both in Radium. A little closer but not as much for services is the Lakeshore Campground 342-6352. They take both tenters and RV's.
All in all a great day of flying and a great party. Please feel free to forward this email on to fellow pilots. So to preregister respond back to this email address your intentions on attending this year, with your name, address, if you are either a paraglider or hanglider, your HPAC #, so we can get you on our list and please mail your $50.000 cheque to the ATN; Frank Kernick, PO Box 865, Invermere, BC, V0A 1K0.
