Endless Summer
Rob Clarkson - Flytec Report April 14
Friday was a nice hot day. The flying wasn't too good and the wind made a lot
of pilots a little nervous. I felt the wind was calm enough to get some
practice in. After getting the glider set up with the help of the Jeff's I was
the first one to tow up. I had a great tow but was very tired and was more than
ready to pin off when the tug pilot waved me off. I couldn't find any good lift
and landed after a short flight. I took a rest before taking another tow as the
field all started to stage to get some tows in. My second tow I was much more
relaxed and didn't get near as tired. Still not much lift.
Saturday was windy and no one was in a hurry to go for a flight. Glen Volk and
Robin Hamilton were the first to tow up and climbed out and headed north. I
towed up shortly after as Davis flew over my head coming from the US nationals
at the Florida Ridge (125 miles). I couldn't hook any good lift and had a short
flight. As the day wore on it seemed to late to go any where so I just did a
couple more practice tows. I'm getting comfortable on tow and feel I'm doing
well on tow. Jorge from Germany landed just after me. He got turned a bit as
he was about to flair and ground looped. It didn't look too bad but he put his
hand out in front of him and dislocated his shoulder. An ambulance come and
took him to the hospital. He returned later in the evening. I glad he wasn't
hurt too bad. Jorge is one of nicest guys you will ever meet. He won the
sports man ship award at Forbes this winter.
Their is a forecast for a huge storm tomorrow so we won't likely be flying tomorrow.
