1991 Canadian Paragliding Cross Country Notes
Since Sean Dougherty flew 57km in 1990, Golden has been the launch site for the best
cross country distance flights in Canada each year.
Several Western Canadian pilots had to decide whether to fly hang gliders or paragliders on promising days at Golden. Two hang gliders pilots, Willi & Chris Muller had two flights over 100km on paragliders. Their three flights average on paragliders was 288.2km (Chris) and 282.8km (Willi), more than their hang gliding average.
In July, Chris Muller and Sean Dougherty set a World and Canadian Flight to a Declared Goal Record of 101.5km, Willi Muller flew the same distance the same day. The flights were from the Golden hang gliding launch to Juniper Heights. In August, Willi Muller flew 109km World Dogleg Open Distance Record. This was also a 108.7km Canadian Record shared with his son, Chris Muller. Peter MacLaren flew 110km.
Kazuyuki Takahashi of Japan flew past Radium for 96km and Glen Derouin & Stewart Midwinter had flights in the high 70's. Janet Moschard was the first Canadian Woman pilot to fly XC with 28km.
